Shoutout for a nifty blog

Posted on 2024-09-23 by herbcso

Not super active, but I found some of the articles pretty useful (recently the fixing of incorrect addedAt timestamps in Plex helped me out), so I wanted to leave a link to it here: FWIW in my case I’m running Plex in a Docker container, so I connected to it with docker exec -it plex…

Avoid collisions in ~/bin

Posted on 2022-06-24 by herbcso

I have not actually run into this issue myself yet, but the idea of prefixing all your own ~/bin commands with a comma (as presented in this article) seems a decent one. So I’m posting this here as a reminder to self, in case I do need to use this idea later.

What’s in a name?

Posted on 2012-12-142020-04-12 by herbcso

We weren’t home during the day, of course, so the poor lady from Lumber Liquidators had to call us like 5 times (she was really trying! ;] ). Posted on 2012-11-282020-04-12 by herbcso

For example, if you wanted to do grep -r nifty.java.property *.properties, then unless you had a *.properties file in your current directory, grep would assume that there…

Take back your Win-Space!!!

Posted on 2010-10-092020-04-12 by herbcso

So ever since I installed Windows 7, it bugged the hell out of me that I couldn’t use my beloved Win-Space hotkey anymore for my equally-beloved Launchy. That is, Until I found this post. Once again, the inimitable AutoHotKey comes charging in on its ugly white horse (the language is a bit of a pain…

SpongeBob SquarePants in Buckaroo Banzai!?

Posted on 2010-09-072020-04-12 by herbcso

So I was watching Buckaroo Banzai again after first having seen it way back when in college in the ’90s and I’m sitting through the opening credits when the following frame catches my attention (grabbed from 2m37s into the movie as it plays on streaming Netflix right now): Wait! What was that? That looks like……
